Narek Hakhnazaryan — ARMENIA • International Music Festival and Competition

Born into a family of musicians, the Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan introduced himself to an international audience when he won the First Prize and a Gold Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Since then, he has been recognized as one of the finest cellists of his generation, convincing with marvellous musicality and flawless technique. Hakhnazaryan’s early studies were at the Sayat-Nova School of Music in Yerevan with Zareh Sarkisyan and at the Moscow Conservatory with Alexey Seleznyov. He was also mentored by Rostropovich.

Hakhnazaryan has played with orchestras like the London Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, the Mariinsky orchestras and the Filarmonica della Scala Milan under conductors such as Gergiev, Koopman, Neemi Järvi, Spivakov, Pletnev and Bělohlávek. As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed in the most important halls in Europe, Asia and the United States.
